FOOD FOR 70 MORE VIETNAM FAMILIES!! MAY 5, 2020

Image
Beyond the 70 families last week, food was just yesterday distributed to 70 more families in Thuy Phu Fishing Village, Huong Van Village, and Hue. Again, each was very grateful to receive a 10 kg (22#) bag of rice, a case of noodles, and a bottle of fish sauce. Thanks to all who, through generous donations, have supported this much-needed food relief program in Vietnam. We'll keep at it as long as possible. A big "thank you" to Khanh of Hearts for Hue   f or his highly-efficient coordination of this critical humanitarian endeavor.  Appreciation is also extended to Mr. Thuyen of the Red Cross, who helped to identify those families most in need. We're on a roll, folks, and it would be great to keep on rolling. Photos and a list of recipients attached.  By the way, Katie, Kira, and I visited Thuy Phu fishing community in 2018. These villagers live on the small boats all year long...pretty amazing. They're very poor, but happy. I make a point to spend t

There is no safety net. No programs. No handouts. They're truly on their own during this unfortunate and difficult period. Oh, the Vietnamese know hardship well and aren't standing around with their hands out, whining. But, fueled by compassion, several kind folks have stepped up, offering donations to help relieve the serious food shortage. Focusing on villages where we have previously  worked, I contacted Khanh, Chairman of  Hearts for Hue  and trusted friend.  Working with the local Red Cross representative and village officials, families with the most critical need were identified. Our available funds allowed the provision of aid to 70 families in Huong So Ward, Huong Van Village, and Phu Gia Village, all familiar places. I am told that the recipients were very grateful and overwhelmed with happiness. Each  received 10 kg (22#) of rice, a case of noodles, and a bottle of fish sauce, which will sustain a typical family for approximately one week. See the list n

HUONG NGUYEN & HUONG CHU COMMUNES                                                            VIETNAM During the past couple of days, the distribution of 400 washable face masks and 200 bottles of hand sanitizer to Huong Nguyen and Huong Chu Communes brought the number of families that we have helped during the covid-19 situation to 1,200. You, the donors, supplied the funding and Khanh, Chairman of Hearts for Hue , coordinated production & delivery. Mr. Tuyen, the regional Red Cross representative, a s well as commune leaders, assisted in distribution. I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Tuyen in the past and find his knowledge essential to the success of our humanitarian endeavors throughout rural villages in his area. But, it is Khanh who brings it all together. Everything that we've accomplished from 2015 to present in the Hue area is in partnership with  Hearts for Hue under the leadership of Khanh, my trusted friend.  Nothing would get

Major Mask & Sanitizer Distribution April 1

Image
Tuesday was a busy day for Khanh, Chairman of Hearts for Hue. From morning to evening, this humanitarian worked hard in an effort of delivery the masks and sanitizers that your donations provided. With a new government isolation directive to become effective April 1, time was of the essence. When the dust settled, all but one village had been covered.  According to Khanh, the following is how delivery worked out: Phu Gia                             600 masks/300 sanitizers Quang Phuoc                    400 masks/200 sanitizers Quang Phu                        400 masks/200 sanitizers Huong Xuan                     400 masks/200 sanitizers Huong Nguyen                 400 masks/200 sanitizers (not completed) Hue & Neil Friends          200 masks/100 sanitizers On April 15, when the current government directive expires, delivery will be made to Huong Nguyen. Vietnam, sharing an 870-mile border with China, must be very decisive and diligent in its efforts for containment.

Your contributions continue to work wonders for impoverished & disabled rural villagers in Vietnam. The wheels are turning. Per Khanh of Hearts for Hue :     As you know that with a new law: if anyone go to market/ public areas without a face mask, he/she will be fined 200.000dvn (8.6USD). Therefore, we will try our best to deliver facemask and hand sanitizers as soon as we can. Khanh had been working with two companies to produce and supply washable (reusable) face masks and hand sanitizer for distribution to rural villages near Hue. On March 25 I inquired as to the status of his Covid:19 containment program. It was obvious from his response that immediate action was required. So, that same day $1,000 was transferred to Khanh. With those funds, 300 families in Phu Gia Commune, including our friends Ms. Hanh, Mr. Duong, and Mr. Vac, could be provided masks and sanitizer. Knowing Khanh's situation in his quest to help many villages, I transferred another $1,000. Now w
