Major Mask & Sanitizer Distribution April 1

Image
Tuesday was a busy day for Khanh, Chairman of Hearts for Hue. From morning to evening, this humanitarian worked hard in an effort of delivery the masks and sanitizers that your donations provided. With a new government isolation directive to become effective April 1, time was of the essence. When the dust settled, all but one village had been covered.  According to Khanh, the following is how delivery worked out: Phu Gia                             600 masks/300 sanitizers Quang Phuoc                    400 masks/200 sanitizers Quang Phu                        400 masks/200 sanitizers Huong Xuan           ...

Masks & Hand Sanitizers March 30, 2020

Your contributions continue to work wonders for impoverished & disabled rural villagers in Vietnam. The wheels are turning. Per Khanh of Hearts for Hue :     As you know that with a new law: if anyone go to market/ public areas without a face mask, he/she will be fined 200.000dvn (8.6USD). Therefore, we will try our best to deliver facemask and hand sanitizers as soon as we can. Khanh had been working with two companies to produce and supply washable (reusable) face masks and hand sanitizer for distribution to rural villages near Hue. On March 25 I inquired as to the status of his Covid:19 containment program. It was obvious from his response that immediate action was required. So, that same day $1,000 was transferred to Khanh. With those funds, 300 families in Phu Gia Commune, including our friends Ms. Hanh, Mr. Duong, and Mr. Vac, could be provided masks and sanitizer. Knowing Khanh's situation in his quest to help many villages, I transferred anothe...

Bummer March 17, 2020

Well, as I realized was a possibility, the trip to Vietnam cannot happen. I don't give a damn about the media-fueled paranoia or the political "cover your ass" crap that has somehow enveloped the planet and disabled the world economy. To me, it's absurd beyond belief. However, Vietnam has placed travel restrictions for tourists, tossing my trip into the trash. So, the flight is cancelled. Now it's time to regroup and refocus. I'll write again soon regarding potential 2020 humanitarian endeavors. Neil

March 8- Dung Family's New House

Image
Well, I am pleased to report that Mrs. Dung and her three children, a boy of 12 and twin girls aged 3,  now have a completely renovated house. The cost of $1,200 USD, provided by you, helped make it happen. A group from the United Kingdom chipped in to help, as well.  As a refresher, here are before and after photos:                                                                           BEFORE                                                           ...

Feb 23, 2020 A Focus on 2020

Image
With planning for Vietnam 2020 underway, it's high time that I allow an insight as to where things presently stand and what we hope to accomplish this year. Although my flight reservation for April/May was established some time ago, the subsequent arrival of the highly-publicized Coronavirus Covid-19 has affected air travel to, from, and between certain Asian countries. Thus, a degree of uncertainty exists. However, our 2020 humanitarian endeavor will nevertheless proceed, regardless of my physical location. My trusted and loyal comrades, Khanh (Hearts for Hue), Thong (Damn Guide), and Nhung (D.O.V.E. Fund) always rise to the occasion. This year, for starters, I'd like to help a family whose plight was brought to my attention by Khanh, Chairman of Hearts for Hue. I has asked for his guidance insofar as humanitarian work in the rural hamlets near Hue.  His suggestion involves the building of a suitable dwelling for the Dung family, a mother and her three children....
